We love arts and crafts!
We really do. We love it so much!
We run Creative Arts and Crafts Parties and we always have a session, daily, at our holiday clubs.
There are so many reasons we love it…
Firstly, it's always so inspiring to see what the kids come up with and how intriguing their imaginations are. We always have a theme or a particular task and you just never know what direction it goes. At one session at holiday club making masks, a kid was so upset we had to finish up as she was doing the final touches stripping fine pieces of tissue paper to make an almost kaleidoscopic creation, it was incredible. She was a perfectionist! (Don’t worry, we let her have an extra 5 minutes to finish off and to quote Amy Winehouse, the tears dried on their own).
Secondly, it’s so satisfying seeing the kids focusing hard on their creations. Granted, there are always some children that don't fully engage or struggle with the tasks and concentrating for long periods of time, but mostly they get stuck in and really go for it. Obviously this is easier at holiday club as they’ve already had most of the day running around, playing games, laughing their heads off and doing drama that they’re suitably, physically tired out and ready to sit down and create!
Finally, one of the best things is, at holiday club, when the kids do ‘Show and Tell’. This is an opportunity for the kids to show and tell the parents (the clue’s in the title!) at pick up all about their creation. The parents love it! We do too as some of the explanations can be utterly bizarre and hilarious. Fish and Chips, blueberry and bubblegum flavoured ‘ice cream’ anyone?!
